Bobtail InsuranceMost of the time, a truck driver on the road is either transporting cargo in a trailer or hauling an empty one to be filled. Others, however, may bobtail, meaning they hire out their services, driving a truck without a trailer. When working for another company, they use the trailers of those for whom they perform transport. Those trailers and their cargo are protected by policyholders of that company. The bobtail's truck, however, is not.
Bobtail coverage is recommended for drivers who drive under the authority of another company without a trailer, for those that want additional protection from the expense of damage or loss of their vehicle or potential lawsuits, or if required by law. If you have questions or require clarification about whether or not you are required to carry this type of coverage, please contact your broker. |
